More often than not people take on a second job to generate more income. Second jobs are a good way to pay off extra bills, save for a vacation, or just live comfortably. Some individuals take on a second job because they are bored and like to work and others do it out of necessity. Second jobs can ease the worry when financial hardships arise. In crunch time sometimes the only way to balance the budget is to take on a second job. In this recession some employers are not allowed to give overtime to employees, forcing them to search for second jobs. Many college students work more than one job in the summer and break times to save for books and tuition. This alleviates pressure from there parents and puts a little extra money in their pockets. Many times entrepreneurs take on second jobs because they need steady pay while developing there business. Anyone can take on second jobs for any reason, and most Americans are making that decision lately. Many jobs are perfect for part-time work.

Serving/waitressing or bartending are great second jobs to start. The hours of these jobs are very flexible and only require minimum skill set. These jobs are also tip based which is convenient when money is needed on an immediate basis.

Other great ideas for a second job would be to tutor, babysit, or mowing a neighbors lawn. These types of jobs can be done on a case by case basis and can be very informal. Although they are very unstable types of position, they can grow rapidly into a mini- business of sorts. These jobs can grow based off of references through friends, and neighbors. Tutoring jobs can pay very well but take up very little time during the week. Babysitting is a second job that will allow a person to do other things while still taking care of a child.

Selling stuff online are great ways to earn extra income and can serve as a fantastic second job. EBay, craigslist, and Amazon offer a great platform to sell things that a person may no longer want or need. The way this is set up is that a person posts a picture and description of a product for sale and wait for people to buy it. This type of job takes minimum time and effort and can earn someone a lot of money. Many times items sold on these sites are still in stores, however they are way below market price when sold second hand.

A similar second job would be to sell items at a consignment shop or a place like Plato’s closet. These places take belongings that people no longer want or need. The idea is one mans trash is another man’s treasure. This idea promotes second hand giving, while earning a good profit, without taking up much time.

If a person can fit a second job around their existing job, they can more easily pay off student loans, save for a down-payment, pay off a car, eliminate credit card debt, fund vacations, or make ends meet. Its important to make sure that a second job doesn’t interfere with a main job. Look for work that accommodates an existing position and allows time to get eight hours of sleep at night.
